Adams Brothers’ Story*

*Names changed to protect privacy.
Two brothers—both veterans—came to Catholic Charities at a breaking point. One, a Marine Corps veteran; the other, an Army National Guard veteran who had recently lost his wife. Grieving, struggling with addiction, and without stable support, they were ready for change but didn’t know where to turn.
When they reached out to our Veterans Services team, we met them where they were—with compassion and a plan. Our case manager worked closely with both brothers to get them into treatment, connecting one with the OKC VA Star Clinic and the other with Cenikor in Waco. Even transportation, often a major barrier in our rural areas, was coordinated through our partnership with a local veteran-owned company—because no obstacle should stand in the way of healing.
Today, both brothers are clean, sober, and focused on rebuilding their lives. The Marine veteran is working with a VA social worker and securing housing, while his brother is fully engaged in his treatment program and taking each day with renewed purpose.
At Catholic Charities, we know recovery and stability don’t happen overnight—but when veterans come to us ready for help, we walk beside them every step of the way. Their story is a testament to what’s possible when compassion meets action.
