About Us
A Work Of Mercy
At Catholic Charities, we RELENTLESSLY end poverty through holistic, evidence-based solutions. Founded in 1910, we serve thousands of people in North Texas, and across the nation, each year.
The beginning of our more than 100-year history was simple. A small group of women went to St. Patrick Cathedral in downtown Fort Worth to petition then-Bishop Edward J. Dunne to begin a “work of mercy.” They wanted to help the poor and vulnerable in their community, in any way they could. Sometimes that meant only being able to offer families a dollar or two. It wasn’t much, but it enabled families to put food on their tables and hope in their hearts.
In 2014, we established Catholic Charities Northwest Campus in Wichita Falls to address the unique and diverse needs of the rural and urban communities that make up the 28-County Diocese of Fort Worth. In the years since our Northwest Campus opened, we’ve accomplished more than we could have ever imagined.
Across our organization, we provide more than 100,000 services to our clients, annually.
- From five dedicated, full-time staff members, we’ve grown to a staff of 29.
- Our Education Navigation program has grown from one campus and a cohort of just 23 students to 12 campuses and nearly 1,500 students. We’ve expanded our program to both two- and four- year colleges and universities, to continue to help students achieve their educational goals.
- We went from serving just six clients in 2014 to having served more than 6,400 clients, to date, through our Community Connections program.
- Our Veterans Services served just 122 veterans in 2015. To date, we’ve served more than 704 of our nation’s heroes in need.
- We created an endowment fund specifically for our Northwest Campus, to ensure that we are here, in this community, in perpetuity.
