Carl’s Story

At 69 years old, a disabled Army veteran was facing more than just the daily challenges of making ends meet—he was struggling with the pain and embarrassment of dental issues that made it hard to eat and nearly impossible to smile. Living alone and carrying the weight of these burdens in silence, he had almost given up hope that anything could change.
That was until he heard about Catholic Charities and decided to reach out.
In February, he was connected with Janis, a dedicated Veterans Case Manager who listened to his story with compassion and immediately began working to help. Over the following months, Janis walked beside him every step of the way—advocating, coordinating care, and offering steady encouragement.
Finally, at the end of April, the veteran received his new smile.
When asked about his experience with Catholic Charities, he shared:
“I’m very thankful and grateful for Janis helping me out. She constantly stayed in touch with me through this ordeal. I’m glad that I can open my mouth and smile again.”
His smile now reflects more than dental work—it represents the restoration of dignity, confidence, and hope. For this veteran, a new smile marked the beginning of a brighter chapter—and it all started with a simple phone call for help.
