Lola’s Story

For so many veterans, the transition home is a difficult one. As they face challenge after challenge — periods without transportation, struggles with substance use, homelessness, or long stretches of uncertainty about where they will sleep or what the next day will bring — stability can feel just out of reach.

This was the reality for one Navy Veteran, a woman who spent most of her adult life trying to find her way after leaving the military.

Over the past two and a half years, our CCFW veteran program case manager, a veteran herself, walked this meaningful journey alongside her.

Some months brought progress and renewed hope. Other months were harder — rehab stays, couch surfing at friends’ places, and moments where it seemed like she was starting over at square one. Through it all, she never stopped striving.

Thanks to an incredible network of military and community resources, we were finally able to get her placed at
the Lawton Veteran Center, a place where she receives the care she deserves, can build connections with other veterans who relate to her experiences, and, most importantly, feels safe and supported.

“Thank you for not giving up on me. Without you, I would have never ended up somewhere better than I could have imagined.”

Moments like this are why we keep showing up, rolling up our sleeves and doing the hard work. While the
services CCFW provides allow our clients to reset and get back on track, it’s the intangibles that make the biggest impact.

Hope and dignity restored. A life rebuilt. A veteran finally finding her place again.
