“Maria”

,

“Maria” came to Catholic Charities’ Community Connections program during a period of significant health and financial challenges. In her early forties, Maria was diagnosed with atrial fibrillation (Afib), a condition that gradually made daily life increasingly difficult. Over the years, she experienced fatigue, dizziness, and uncertainty, yet she continued working—first at the North Texas State Hospital for twelve years and later at a warehouse in Burkburnett. As her condition worsened and medical emergencies became more frequent, she was forced to leave her second job, leaving her unable to work and facing mounting financial strain.

Community Connections helped Maria by providing support for her TXU account, pledging $275.42 to relieve the immediate burden of her utility bill. This assistance provided much-needed relief, allowing her to focus on her upcoming surgical procedure, which her doctor hopes will bring relief from the symptoms her medications no longer control.

Now, Maria can navigate this difficult chapter with a sense of stability and hope. The financial support allowed her to focus on her health and recovery, alleviating some of the stress that had accompanied her medical challenges. Her story is one of courage, endurance, and hope—made brighter with the assistance of Community Connections.

Community Connections exists to meet neighbors like Maria in moments of financial and personal strain with dignity, stability, and care. To learn more, visit https://catholiccharitiesnw.org/community-connections/
