Ariana came to Catholic Charities’ Community Connections program through WorkForce Solutions during an exceptionally difficult time. At just twenty years old, she had recently lost her mother unexpectedly and suddenly became the sole caregiver and provider for her five younger brothers, ages 4 to 18. With their father serving time in prison for multiple DWIs, Emily faced the enormous responsibility of supporting her family on her full-time income, which was not enough to cover the mortgage, utilities, and basic necessities for a household of six.
Community Connections helped Ariana by providing immediate financial relief, paying the family’s electric bill, while Sacred Heart covered the water bill. The program also assisted her in securing guardianship of her brothers so she could access food stamps, helped her eighteen-year-old brother obtain identification and employment, and encouraged her sixteen-year-old to return to school in the fall. Additionally, Community Connections provided necessities for back-to-school, including shoes, clothing, backpacks, and supplies for each child.
Now, Ariana’s life, while still challenging, has a foundation of support and relief. She can provide for her brothers, ensure they have access to education and basic necessities, and navigate a path forward with the assistance and guidance of Community Connections. The relief provided has given her family stability during a heartbreaking time.
