Life doesn’t always go according to plan.
That’s what happened to Manuel and Maria Martinez.
The couple had built a comfortable life together, raising five children and enjoying seven grandchildren. But when Manuel suffered an injury while working in the oilfield, he was forced to leave his well-paying job. Although he found new employment, the family’s income was cut in half.
As bills began piling up, Community Connections stepped in to provide assistance toward their electric bill and connect the family with additional resources and employment opportunities.
That support gave Manuel and Maria the breathing room they needed to focus on regaining stability and moving forward.
Because everyone deserves support when life takes an unexpected turn.

For most of her life, Abigail felt like she was always trying to catch up.
After a divorce and the sudden loss of a roommate who helped with household expenses, she found herself relying on credit cards and side jobs just to provide for her three children.
Through Catholic Charities’ LIFT program, Abigail worked alongside a Navigator to build a financial plan, eliminate debt, and create a path toward long-term stability.
In just a few months, she:
• Saved more than $3,000
• Paid off nearly $9,000 in debt
• Increased her credit score from the 500s into the high 600s
Today, Abigail isn’t just surviving—she’s thriving. She’s building savings, planning for the future, and teaching her children the financial habits that will serve them for years to come.

Years ago, Blanca and Victor Gutierrez were balancing jobs, classes, and raising children while pursuing college degrees.
Like many students, they faced financial challenges, family responsibilities, and uncertainty about how they would continue their education.

After serving in the U.S. Navy, Mr. Ryan faced years of hardship, loss, and isolation.
Following a serious illness, he found himself living out of his SUV with no stable support system and nowhere to turn.
Through Catholic Charities’ Veterans Services Center, Mr. Ryan was connected to emergency housing, VA healthcare, disability benefits, and a network of community partners that helped him rebuild his life.
Today, Mr. Ryan has a safe place to call home and something he hadn’t felt in decades:
Hope.
