Meet the Team
Barbara Merkle, Chair
Barbara is a strong promoter for education. She began her professional career as an elementary teacher for WFISD before taking a position in college admissions at Midwestern State University. She stayed with MSU for thirty years, retiring in 2013 as Director of Admissions Emerita. She is active on numerous community boards in Wichita Falls including board member on Wichita Falls Area Community Foundation, WF Junior League, the current chair for Catholic Charities Northwest Campus Advisory Board, and serves on the Board of Directors for Catholic Charities Fort Worth.
She received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Midwestern State. She enjoys travel, reading and needlework. She is married to attorney Greg Merkle and has one son, Anthony. She is a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace and resides in Wichita Falls.
David Kimball, Jr., Emeritus Board Member
David is President and CEO of Burk Royalty Co. Ltd, serves on the Board of Managers, and is a limited partner of the Company. Prior to becoming president, David served as senior vice president of exploration and oversaw all exploration and acquisition activities for the company. David began his career as a landman for the Company in East Texas in 1980 and has continued to be active overseeing the Company’s participation in numerous plays in East Texas and Northern Louisiana.
David is also Chairman of the Board of Managers of Viva Energy Services, an affiliated well servicing and plugging company based in Odessa, Texas. Viva operates 30+ well servicing rigs, a trucking division, down hole and fishing division, and plugging division.
David also currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Boys and Girls Club of Wichita Falls, the finance committee of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and the Board of the Catholic Charities of Fort Worth. He is an active member of IPAA and sponsor of the annual prayer breakfast and past board member of the Texas Alliance of Energy Producers. David and Mary have been married for 37 years and have 4 children and 6 grandchildren. Trey Kimbell, their oldest son, is a geologist and Mary Martha Kimbell, their youngest daughter, is a landman at Burk Royalty. They are the fourth generation of Kimbell family members to work for Burk Royalty.
