Mildred came to Catholic Charities’ Community Connections program during a time of compounded personal and financial challenges. A college graduate and former hospital project employee with more than ten years of experience, Mildred faced a series of hardships: a cancer diagnosis, the loss of her mother, the discovery of her mother fallen in her home, fraud from a home warranty company, and the loss of her long-tenured job for being honest. At sixty-six, she also struggled to find work, being told she was overqualified, and was trying to maintain her mental and physical health alone. When her hot water heater leaked, causing damage and resulting in a large Atmos gas bill, Mildred faced yet another overwhelming obstacle.

Community Connections helped Mildred by paying her full Atmos bill of $446.53 and connecting her with counseling services to support her grief and anxiety. This assistance provided both immediate financial relief and emotional support, helping Mildred regain stability during a very challenging period.

Now, Mildred’s life has a renewed sense of hope and support. She can focus on her health, navigate daily life without the added stress of utilities debt, and take steps to care for her emotional well-being through counseling. Community Connections’ assistance helped Mildred find both practical relief and the encouragement to keep moving forward.

Community Connections exists to meet neighbors like Mildred in moments of financial and personal strain with dignity, stability, and care. To learn more, visit https://catholiccharitiesnw.org/community-connections/
